What Our Customers Say

Preserve Your View While Protecting Your Space

See outside clearly. Block the heat and glare. That's what solar shades do—something other window treatments can't.

The harsh sunlight is filtered. The UV rays damaging your furniture are blocked. The heat building up in your space is reduced. But your view stays open and connected to the outdoors.

Perfect for home offices where you need to reduce screen glare without losing the view. Perfect for sunrooms where you want the outdoor connection without the intense heat.

Protect What You Love From Sun Damage.

Your furniture stays beautiful. Your floors stay rich. Your artwork doesn't fade.

Solar shades block harmful UV rays while letting in natural light and your view. No glare on screens. No closed-off feeling. Just smart sun protection that keeps you comfortable without sacrificing what you love about your windows.

This is what living with large windows should feel like: protected, but open.

Choose Your View & Protection Balance

Openness is the percentage of tiny holes in the fabric. Higher openness = more view and light. Lower openness = more protection and privacy.

1% Openness
Maximum privacy and sun protection. Best for offices where glare control on screens is critical.

5% Openness
Balanced view and protection. The most popular choice—clear outside view with strong heat and UV reduction.

10% Openness
Maximum view and natural light. Best for scenic windows where the view is more important than glare control.

At Factory Direct Shades we typically deliver shades to your door in under 10 business days. We begin working on your shades immediately and with 40 years of experience, our factory production is quick and efficient.

▼ Can I change my order after I submit it?

Because all of our shades are custom made on demand, we typically start production on orders by 8am the next business day. If you need to make changes, contact us immediately. Once production begins, there may be an additional charge for changes.

▼ If I make a mistake measuring, can you remake my shades?

At Factory Direct Shades, we will do our best to work with you on any mistakes in measuring. Because our products are custom made, we do not accept returns for mistakes in your order. Sometimes our shades can be repaired. If they need to be remade we will offer you remade shades at a 50% discount off the regular price.

▼ What Applications Work Best with Different Shade Styles?

Our shades work well in almost any setting, from modern to traditional. Roman shades add elegance to formal spaces, while roller shades offer a clean, neutral appearance suitable for any room. Motorized shades are particularly great for hard-to-reach windows or for automating multiple shades throughout your home.

▼ How is Factory Direct Shades different than other window shade companies?

Our factory is a family owned business that has been operating for over 40 years making premium window treatments. You will find that our fabrics are better quality than the fabrics you will see at most online suppliers, and at a factory direct price. We pride ourselves in offering premium products at discount prices.

▼ Why are Factory Direct Shades prices so low?

We have been supplying window treatments to the industry for over 40 years, and we are now available direct to consumer through our website. You will find that our shades are higher quality than you will see in the market. We not only manufacture our shades at our factory, we also produce our fabrics in house. We pass the extra savings to you by eliminating middlemen and retail markups.

▼ Are your shades reliable and how long do they last?

Factory Direct Shades are built to last with premium materials and expert craftsmanship. Most standard window treatments have an average lifespan of 3-10 years. How often you use your shades can have an impact on their longevity. With our quality fabrics and construction, your shades should provide years of reliable service.

▼ What will I pay for shipping?

Shipping costs vary based on your location and order size. We offer competitive shipping rates and will provide you with shipping costs during checkout. For orders within the contiguous United States, we aim to keep shipping affordable as part of our factory direct pricing model.

▼ How will my shades be delivered?

Most of our products are shipped directly to your home via UPS or FedEx ground shipping. Larger orders may be shipped via freight carrier. All shades are carefully packaged to ensure they arrive in perfect condition. You will receive tracking information so you can monitor your delivery.

▼ What is your return policy?

Since all our shades are custom made to your exact specifications, they are not suitable for standard returns. However, we will work with you if there are any defects or damage. We stand behind the quality of our products and will help resolve any issues with your order.

▼ What makes Factory Direct Shades fabrics special?

We source and manufacture our own premium fabrics in house, which allows us to control quality from start to finish. Our fabrics offer superior softness, beautiful drape, and exceptional durability. All our fabrics meet industry-leading marks for longevity and performance, so your shades will look beautiful and perform reliably for years to come.

▼ Are motorized shades worth the investment?

Motorization can be a worthwhile investment in the comfort and efficiency of your home. It's especially valuable for tall windows, windows that are high up or otherwise difficult to reach. Motorized shades are also perfect for rooms with many windows—you can program them to raise and lower together at the same time. They add convenience and can help with energy efficiency by automating light and heat control.

▼ Do you offer blackout or light-filtering options?

Yes, we offer a variety of fabric options including blackout, light-filtering, and sheer fabrics. Blackout options are perfect for bedrooms and light-sensitive spaces, while light-filtering fabrics provide privacy while allowing soft natural light. Our in-house fabric production means we have extensive options to choose from.

▼ How do I measure my windows correctly?

Accurate measurements are critical for a perfect fit. Measure the width at the top, middle, and bottom of your window, using the smallest measurement. For height, measure on the left, center, and right side, using the longest measurement. Always measure to the nearest 1/8 inch. Use a metal measuring tape for accuracy, not a cloth tape.

▼ Should I round up or down 1/8" on my window measurements?

If your window measurements fall between eighths of an inch, round down to the nearest 1/8" for width and round up to the nearest 1/8" for height. For example: Width 54-1/16" would round down to 54". Height 54-1/16" would round up to 54-1/8". This ensures the best fit.

▼ Can I just measure my old window treatments?

No. Because deductions were taken at the factory on your old custom shades, you will not get the exact fit you need when you order new ones. Always measure your window opening directly using a metal tape measure for the most accurate results.

▼ What is the difference between inside mount and outside mount?

An inside mount means the shade fits within the window frame opening. This highlights your windows but may have small light gaps on the sides. An outside mount means the shade is mounted on the wall or trim above and outside the window frame, covering the entire window opening and trim. Outside mounts are better for light control and larger coverage. Choose based on your window depth and desired look.

▼ Can I order a ceiling mount?

Yes, ceiling mounts are available and can actually make your room appear taller. This mounting option works well for rooms with high ceilings and can provide complete light coverage. Contact our team to discuss if ceiling mount is the right option for your space.
